Tracy Chevalier’s Girl with a Pearl Earring is a study of the relationship between the famous painter Vermeer and Griet, our protagonist. The book teaches how to understand life as a form of art by feeling and appreciating it. The author has portrayed this through the narrative of a sweet Dutch girl – battles her insecurities and matures into a fierce woman that knows her place in the world.

I see this more a journey of finding oneself rather than a romance between a muse and a painter. She has an inquisitive mind. She deals with new feelings, all on her own – she is conditioned to something new and adapts so well. What the master and she have, is more of an understanding between social classes than a spiritual connection. She likes to complete him and so does he – feeling what he feels and catching things he can’t see; and he takes her for granted.
